Loved the nice clean lines on this brindle / white boy, he is a standard sized, compact, well balanced example who must be described as an excellent blend of bull & terrier, not overdone anywhere.            quarters. Nice short, tight coat. Quality example of the breed who although was carrying a shade too much weight, was

Firstly I must thank the ACT club  for inviting me to judge in Canberra once again. It truly was an honor to return to Australia to judge here, having previously made the trip in 2000 to officiate for Canberra Sporting Terrier Club.

The hard work put into organizing and running such a memorable show weekend was obviously much appreciated by the exhibitors who chose to give their support to the organizers.  The overall atmosphere around the rings was friendly and welcoming,  and in the ring I experienced extreme courtesy towards myself, thanks again.

A great big Thankyou to all the people involved in making us so welcome, organizing our accommodation and transportation, and generally making sure we were looked after first class, before. during, and after the shows. We appreciated everyone involved in looking after us putting themselves out to ensure we had everything we needed, and for showing us around the sights of Canberra. The gift presented to me after the show was much appreciated.

I must thank the exhibitors for their entries, and to my steward who was particularly efficient in assisting me and the exhibitors, and kept everything running smoothly.

As for the exhibits on show today, I feel the depth of quality has improved since my previous appointment here. I found very few dentition faults so will not mention bites in individual critiques. I did notice a fair number of dogs / bitches moving closely at the rear, something which may need to be considered with regard to future breeding plans. The biggest improvement I felt was with ’type’, the variations I came across on my last visit here were not evident this time around, I was very pleased  with the standard of the entry and I was faced with some very difficult decisions throughout the classes, having to leave out specimens who I admired.

The standard of handling was very commendable,  as was the general high level of fitness in the more mature dogs and bitches,  with all but a few exhibits presented in excellent toned condition,  which in my eyes,  is always a pleasure to see,  although type,  conformation and general structural soundness is what I look for in the first instance.

I must also add that the temperaments of the animals were as always, very sound, with all exhibits behaving impeccably.

Add to this the excellent weather, warm (hot to me) and dry, all  went to top off a great weekend, for those who had made the effort and traveled to Canberra (some from nearby & some from far off) for what I reckon is a great social gathering that is becoming a must-do for many enthusiasts in Australia. It was my pleasure to be involved in such an occasion. Best of luck in the future to all.
