11th Championship Show: 23rd April 2006 Mrs Mary Coble (Surestaff) - UK |

My sincere thanks to the Committee of this club, especially Linda & Eric Birkland, for organizing a great show and the excellent hospitality extended to both Harry and myself during our long weekend stay. I would particularly like to take the opportunity here to thank Aldith (who doesn’t even have Staffords) who kindly gave up a day to take us on a whirlwind tour of Canberra whilst the first day’s judging took place as, unlike England, it is generally accepted that on two-day show, the second judge stays away from the show on the first day. Of course this meant the Committee had another headache finding someone to entertain us in the meantime, however, it did give us an excellent opportunity to see some of the sights of the City and very enjoyable it was. Aldith even eventually managed to find us a bunch of kangaroos grazing in the grounds of the Governor’s House which really finished off the sight-seeing nicely.
It was indeed a pleasure to have an entry of 198 and to find so many exhibits in such fit and hard condition considering the hot weather, is quite surprising, as it must be more difficult to exercise the dogs in these conditions. I found the quality of bitches was slightly higher than the dogs but, saying that, there were some very nice dogs on display also which proves more than just a few of you people are getting it right. I didn’t have too many mouth problems, the odd slightly undershot or a tooth out of line and a few broken teeth, which doesn’t particularly bother me if the jaw line is correct, but did notice one or two dark brindles with light eyes and poorer pigmentation than I would have expected. Nonetheless, in general, I think there seemed to be much more standardization with respect to size than I observed in 1998 when last in Australia.
I would like to thank exhibitors for giving me this opportunity to go over their dogs and the sporting way they accepted my decisions, my ring steward Kerry Edwards for working her butt off ensuring things ran smoothly in the ring, and hope everyone enjoyed their day as much as I did, although since it turned out to be a nice sunny day with very dry grass and I was wearing sandals, my feet certainly had a dust bath – by the time I finished judging they were real dirty. Really appreciated the photo-album of the winners being ready at the end of the show – a super idea.

BABY PUPPY DOG - 14, 2 abs What a joy (and headache) these classes are – we don’t have them in England so it is strange to have to judge these puppies instead of just playing with them!
1. Brien’s Joelena A Boy Called Sue (Borstaff The Man in Black x Ch Joelena Lemony Snickett) BABY PUPPY IN SHOW What a little belter. Dark brindle, nice size for age, well off for bone, good head with lovely expression, strong muzzle & underjaw, good stop, ears a little fly but confident they will settle after teething is finished, good body and tail set. Sure he is going to be one to look out for. 2. Wolf’s Ourgang Don’t Stop Me Now (Ch Ourgang Tmorrow Blongs TMe x Ch Ourgang Queen Moussette) Stuck my neck out here since he is only three months old, but couldn’t resist him. An appealing mahogany brindle, stood four square, nice head and body, lovely dark eye. Another good prospect. 3. Holohan’s Koznar Cool Warrior (Ch Linwest Back in Black x Ch Linwest Bittersweet) Attractive pied with strong head, neat ears and dark eye. 4. Straub & Cole’s Sajomarde Son O Bart (Ch Almawill Under Pressure x Cherabah Georgia) 5. Martin’s Joden Stone Cold (Ch Tuskstock It Wasn’t Me x Ch Joden Renegade Fighter)
MINOR DOG - 3
1. Yavion’s Wironastaff On Fire (Ruffhouse Slick Rick x Wironastaff Lite My Fire) 6 months old, red with white chest, attractive head, strong muzzle and correct bite. Body developing OK, good bend of stifle. Moved OK. 2. McManus’ Rizenstar Hugo Boss (Stafface True Grit x Kellbrallie Jasannah) Deep red, good head but muzzle not as strong as 1, nice body, Short coupled, excellent pigmentation. Close tight coat. 3. Moore’s Jorshell The Quikaning (Ch Lapwing Quicksilver Quinn x Bedeany Heard A Rumour) Black brindle, nice head with strong muzzle, neat ears, good expression but would have preferred darker eye.
PUPPY DOG – 9, 1 abs 1. Craig & Austin-Cleary’s Powerbilt The Slasher (Powerbilt Dark Agent x Tykabul Think Twice) Black brindle in lovely condition, broad skull with nice distance between eyes, which are dark and give a wicked expression. Short strong muzzle, clean lipped, plenty of underjaw, good bite and large teeth. Compact muscular body, brisket dropping, ample bone and good feet. Maturing nicely, handled well and should have a bright future. 2. Laws’ Shkiri Louis Vuitton (Ch Highbourne Baryshnikov x Ch Cherabah High Acclaim) Attractive black brindle, standard size, with good head shape, neat ears, but would have preferred darker eye to complete the picture. Good pigmentation, nice short nails. Body coming along well, short coupled with adequate bend of stifle. Didn’t move quite as well as 1. 3. Macklin & Griffiths’ Acrstaff Risky Business (Ch Lapwing Quicksilver Quinn x Truhaven Midnight Special) Another nice black brindle, gleaming coat. Good head with well defined cheek muscle. Again, would like to have seen a darker eye. Strong hindquarters. 4. Truhart Knls’ Truhart New Horizons (Cherabah Divils Advocate x Truhart Night Shadow) 5. Parsons’ Rualfinn Dads Pyjamas (Bajed Scotch on Rock x Tonkartin Miss Attitude)
JUNIOR DOG - 11, 2 abs 1. Faithful’s Ourknights Red Ht Rumor (Novastaff Beamish Red x Sharpshot Storms Kiss) JUNIOR IN SHOW Smart looking red, fine close coat, with white blaze on chest, at the smaller end of the scale, but compact and fit. Good head, well defined stop, dark eye and thin rose ears, excellent expression. Broad straight front, well off for rib and developing good back end. Moved and handled well. 2. Trimble’s Stoneheart Tom Foolery (Grand Ch Highbourne Luskin Star x Stoneheart Hot to Touch) Eye catching powerful black brindle with large white marking on chest, well put together for only 10.5 months old, liked him a lot. Strong head, plenty of underjaw, straight front, good depth of brisket to leg. Moved extremely well – just lost out to 1 on maturity. 3. Yavion’s Wironastaff Man Power (Ruffhouse Slick Rick x Powerbilt Hot Gossip) Predominantly white with red markings on head and body. Very clean cut head, strong muzzle, neat ears, good front, short coupled, nicely tucked up. Presented in excellent condition, as hard as nails. 4. Connor’s Ryteaky Son Of Assassin (Niatona The Silent Assassin - Imp UK x Truhart Dark Delight) 5. Lane’s Sandtoys Arsenal (Grand Ch Staffbach Bullet Proof x Bajed Miss Peach)
INTERMEDIATE DOG – 9 1. Boland & Keep’s Joelena HSV Maloo (Borstaff Just Bring It x Borstaff Tiklish Allsort) Standard size black brindle with pleasing head, correct ratio of muzzle to skull, deep stop, scissor bite. Keen expression with dark eye. Well muscled body, tight coat, deep brisket, adequate bend of stifle. Exhibited well with minimum handling. 2. Faithful’s Belleden Ghost N Darkness (Ch Belleden Devil Ov Orion x Ch Pitford Princess Azeri ) Quite taken with this predominantly white with black markings on head. First class head shape, eyes set to look straight ahead, neat ears, excellent pigmentation. Nice outline, stood four square. Close decision, just lost out to 1 on fitness and depth of brisket. 3. Livingstone’s Likalot Leada Of the Pack (Sparstaff Special Brew – Imp UK x Ch Likalot Blazing Amazon) This compact black brindle really caught my eye and would have been my first choice but for an unfortunate fault. However, his many virtues are too good to overlook and he well deserved this placing in a strong class. 4. Flentjar’s Warbydog Paintd Warrior (Stoneheart Full Contact x Richfield Tilly Tops) 5. Connor’s Ryteaky Boffa Boy (Powerpaws Wise Guy x Truhart Dark Delight)
AUSTRALIAN BRED DOG - 21, 5 abs 1. Osborne’s Ch Tuskstock It Wasn’t Me CHALLENGE DOG, RUNNER UP IN SHOW (Ch Leatherwood Iron Mike x Ch Taroby Doohan It Easy) Real typy black brindle, with such style and ring presence, offering strength for size but nothing exaggerated, just what I was hoping for and he certainly fulfilled all my expectations. Standard size, well up on his pasterns, true in front, deep brisket and well defined rib, with nice tuckup showing off his strong hindquarters. Muscle tone second to none. Good balanced head, eye dark enough, small thin ears which he used to enhance his already alert expression – had apparently chipped a tooth earlier in the day but the jawline was perfect so I didn’t consider this a problem. Moved freely and positively, responding well to his handler, he obviously enjoys showing and I had no hesitation in awarding him the CC. 2. Schintler’s JeOlena MixandMax (Ch Borstaff Snedrick Crumbb x Joelena Sians Delight) Lovely deep red with clean lines. Good head, deep through skull, with dark mask, correct mouth. Well bodied up, deep chest, short coupled, adequate bend of stifle, good pigmentation. Pushed 1 hard but today couldn’t quite match his sparkle. 3. Daelish’s Novastaff Beamish Red (Ch Satiety Horace Whitesox x Ch Novastaff Nooky Nova) Nice red, although not the depth of 2. Appealing head shape, well developed cheek muscle, correct bite. Good body, close coat. Moved with drive on strong hindquarters. 4. Brandrick’s Chablakmor Devils Dream (Ch Lockstaff Black Venom x Ch Chablakmor Dynamite News) 5. Connolly’s Kabere Hannibal Lector (Ch Kabere The Henchman x Ch Kabere Fire N Brimstone)
OPEN DOG - 15, 2 abs 1. Lindsay’s Ch Linwest Thunderstruck (Nuklnoz Vincent Comet x Jehard Last Love) RESERVE DOG Fetching red and white pied, with a definite advantage of being flashily marked to catch the eye. Really clean chiseled head, deep stop, broad muzzle, scissor bite. Good front, well sprung rib, nice bend of stifle. Fine close coat. Presented in super condition. Expertly handled and moved OK. Pleased to award the RCC. 2. Faulk’s Ch Berlstock Eyes Wide Shut (Ch Mataroo Warru x Ascalon Cause A Scene) Quality black brindle with strong head, deep through skull, distinct stop, well developed cheek muscle, correct bite. Compact body, good bone and well padded feet, with powerful hindquarters and well bent stifles. Nice dog all round. 3. Walsh’s Ch Kypajuka Son of a Crumbb (Ch Borstaff Snedrick Crumbb x Tribalstaff Goldeen) Nice top sized red dog with white chest and socks. Good head, nice expression, deep stop, strong muzzle but not quite as clean as 2nd. Well ribbed, level topline and strong back end. Moved freely. 4. Koendidda Knls’ Ch Koendidda Umrum (Grand Ch Highbourne Luskin Star x Ch Koendidda Manhatten Jazz) 5. Szirer’s Ch Borstaff Snedrick Crumbb (Ch Cherabah Ironside x Borstaff Hazel Hairbrush)
BABY BITCH - 23, 6 abs 1. Holohan’s Koznar Zenas Princess (Ch Linwest Back in Black x Ch Linwest Bittersweet) Black brindle with white chest and front socks. What a little charmer, only 4 months but already showing signs of great potential, lovely feminine head, dark round eye and neat ears, mouth not fully set but no obvious problems. Body developing OK. Really thought she had style. 2. McCoy’s Joden Wicked Game (Ch Tuskstock It Wasn’t Me x Ch Joden Renegade Fighter) Another super black brindle, almost 4 months. Striking head, blunt muzzle with strong underjaw, neat ears and lovely expression. Good body and rib with level topline. Great mover. 3. Poelstra & Dove’s Verysharp The Escapee (Ch Verysharp Pretty Boy x Grand Ch Verysharp Reflections) Very promising black brindle who showed herself well, good head with piercing dark eyes giving alert expression, ample bone, excellent pigmentation. 4. Poulden’s Staffbach Voodoo Child (Ch Ourgang Truly Unruly x Borstaff Fanny Fredrika) 5. Amos & Sioukas’ Verysharp Madam Foo Foo (Ch Verysharp Pretty Boy x Grand Ch Verysharp Reflections)
MINOR BITCH - 1
1. Livingstone’s Likalot Freedom Fighter (Likalot Leada of the Pack x Ch Likalot on Impulse) MINOR IN SHOW
Mahogany brindle, very strong head, without being coarse, and most importantly still retaining femininity, correct mouth with super large teeth and plenty of underjaw. Very mature for age, nicely bodied up, good bone and powerful hindquarters. Showed really well and deserved her first place – even though she stood alone.
PUPPY BITCH - 8, 1 abs 1. Laws’ Shkiri Prissy Paris (Ch Highbourne Baryshnikov x Ch Cherabah High Acclaim) PUPPY IN SHOW Real typy black brindle with good head, nice clean cut, deep stop, neat well placed ears and acceptable eye colour, although would have liked them darker. Good front, nice body, short back and nice tuck up. Powerful hindquarters which enabled her to move with drive. 2. Trimble’s Stoneheart Exotic Spirit (Grand Ch Highbourne Luskin Star x Stoneheart Hot To Touch) Mahogany brindle with white blaze. Very appealing head, scissor bite and large teeth, striking expression, good body, short back and strong back end. 3. Austin-Cleary’s Tykabul In Vogue (Ch Tuskstock It Wasn’t Me x Tykabul Random Hearts) Well proportioned black brindle with good head, coming along nicely, at times holds ears a little untidy but these should settle. Excellent pigmentation, straight front, good body and nice tuck up. Presented in lovely condition. 4. Fry, Pleydell-Fry & Grundy’s Reewen Black Pearl (Ch Mishmax Little Gladiator x Reewen My Hearts Desire) 5. Brien’s Joelena Look at Meee (Ch Kypajuka Son of a Crumbb x Borstaff Tiklish Allsort)
JUNIOR BITCH - 23, 1 abs Predominantly white and perhaps more bully than I would normally go for, but very nicely put together and showed well. Strong head, good front, deep brisket, well ribbed, level topline. A little less weight on the loin would complete the picture. 2. Laws’ Hugastaff After Dark (Ch Jamelkur Cruzin Star x Itsastaff Bet on Black) Nice type of black brindle, with good head and expression, eye acceptably dark, pigmentation good, correct bite, stood four square, straight front, short back. Liked this one a lot, but topline not quite as good as 1. 3. Walsh’s Kypajuka Black Widow (Ch Lockstaff Black Venom x Tribalstaff Goldeen) Another attractive black brindle, feminine head, lovely body, good bone and deep brisket. Well presented and moved OK. 4. Livingstone’s Likalot EclipseOfTheMoon (Ch Linwest Thunderstruck x Ch Likalot Blazing Amazon) 5. Hayes’ Ourgang Red Terra (Grand Ch Ourgang Hell For Leather x Ch Ourgang Misguided Angel)
INTERMEDIATE BITCH - 16, 5 abs 1. Butcher’s Warbred Copperhead Rose (Whiptail Apollo – Imp UK x Staffme Wazzas Girl) INTERMEDIATE IN SHOW Very nice red with a classy head, not large but lovely shape, broad skull, dark eyes set well apart, blunt muzzle and extremely small well placed ears, excellent pigmentation and fine close coat. Good body, very clean outline, well balanced. Showed like a dream, moved OK. 2. Livingstone’s Likalot Pawsitively Blazing (Sparstaff Special Brew – Imp UK x Ch Likalot Blazing Amazon) Dark brindle of nice proportions, well ribbed, short coupled and muscle tone excellent on hind quarters, stood four square. Good head, nice ear carriage, correct mouth. Close decision, but 1 just had the edge on movement. 3. Evans & Terry’s Rayonnoire Mon Ami (Takilla Taboo Noir – Imp UK x Ch Knockon Bittersweet - Imp UK) Nice sized black brindle, good head, well placed neat ears. Compact body with good tuck up. 4. Craig’s Ch Onfire English Toffee (Ch Gecane TheVicarOvCoseley x Ch Onfire Final Cut) 5. Doobagg Knls’ Borstaff Tullie Tubbie (Ch Kelstock Nikkis Black Magic – Imp UK x Borstaff Hazel Hairbrush)
AUSTRALIAN BRED BITCH - 24, 1 abs 1. Frazer’s Ch Rayonnoire Canny Bairn AUST BRED IN SHOW, CHALLENGE BITCH & BEST IN SHOW (Ch Takilla Taboo Noir – Imp UK x Ch Knockon Bittersweet) She came I saw, and she conquered. Top sized gleaming black brindle with such style, she is certainly quite striking. Excellent head, strong square muzzle, but losing none of her feminine charm, distinct stop and correct bite, dark round piercing eye and to complete the picture, thin small ears. Straight front, good boned front legs with no weakness of pasterns, nicely muscled body, short back, level topline and well tucked up showing off her strong hindquarters. Didn’t put a foot wrong, moved with drive. Pleased to award CC & BIS. 2. Brien’s Ch Joelena Lemony Snickett (Ch Borstaff Snedrick Crumbb x Borstaff Tiklish Allsort ) Nice red with good head, though not as clean in muzzle as 1. Good body, nice definition, well ribbed, close coupled and excellent fine coat. Presented in fit condition. Moved and handled well. Attractive brindle & white. Pleasing head, good stop, strong muzzle. Nice body, deep brisket and good rib development, well tucked up. Moved very well. 4. Livingstone’s Likalot Devils Rose (Sparstaff Special Brew - Imp UK x Ch Likalot Blazing Amazon) 5. Steele’s Ch Hellfyre Ice Queen (Grand Ch Belleden Red Warrior x Ch Alanaleigh Gogettemate)
OPEN BITCH - 17 1. Trimble’s Ch Stoneheart Hide The Halo OPEN IN SHOW & RESERVE CHALLENGE (Ch Truhart Black Knight x Ch Doralmar Stone Maiden) Compact, fit looking red with large white blaze on chest. Good head with typical expression, enhanced by her black mask and nice ear carriage. True front, well placed shoulders, deep brisket and ample rib. Powerful hindquarters with well bent stifle. Showed well to RCC. 2. Fry, Playdell-Fry & Grundy’s Ch Borstaff Bumblebee (Ch Cherabah Ironside x Borstaff Hazel Hairbrush) Dark brindle with appealing head, broad skull, good stop, well developed cheek muscle and dark round eye. Good body with well developed rib, nicely bent stifles. Moved very positively. 3. Evans’ Ch Knockon Bitter Sweet – Imp UK (Knockon In Touch – Imp UK x Knockon Effect – UK)Standard size black brindle with superb head, really strong but feminine, blunt muzzle and excellent expression. I see she is the dam of my CC winner, no wonder I liked her head so much. True front and good body with strong backend. Unfortunately when standing she kept crouching down on her rear end, which lost her a higher placing – annoyingly enough, whilst doing this write-up, she stood perfectly and had a good topline. 4. Consadine’s Ch Mosstrooper Get Mortal (Mosstrooper Mean Streets x Eastaff The Oulton Broad – Imp UK) 5. Osborne’s Ch Tuskstock All Eyez On Me (Ch Leatherwood Iron Mike x Taroby Unlimited)
NEUTER BITCH - 3, 2 abs
1. Wolf’s Ch Ourgang Queen Moussette (Ch Keltarjess Darcy Blue x Ourgang Put The Ketl On)
Lovely looking bitch with a good head, nice dark eye. Straight front, well off for bone and good hindquarters. Although she had no competition, she proved she could still show herself to advantage, moved well and deserved her placing. |
